It was a warm overcast day, but the rain held out for the 42nd Annual MFD Up North Picnic, held on July 12, 2023, with 130 people gathering to eat, drink and share stories. There were many new faces in the crowd, active and retired, that said they would be back next year. Food was abundant with brats, chicken, salads and desserts, all very tasty! St. Germain Fire Department provided a fire engine for our yearly photo. Tom McKale, on bagpipes, played Honor the Fallen with Ray Brock reading the names of the 27 deceased members and Mike Warzala ringing the bell. Tom closed with Amazing Grace. Andy Timm and Rich Hoener won at horseshoes with Mike Torpy winning the Closest to the Pin contest. A special thank you to the Emergency Response Specialists, owned by Tom Jones and Brian Glassel, who donated beer and the Milwaukee Firefighters Union Local 215 made a very generous monetary donation to the picnic, which is appreciated by all members. Thanks and prayers to all the fallen Police, Fire and Military personnel that have made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us and this wonderful country. Mike and Linda Ballmann would like to thank everyone in attendance for keeping this MFD tradition alive through their generous donations and all the volunteers making the picnic possible.
