When you access or use the ERS Web site, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined below. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use this site.

The ERS may change this policy from time to time, and reserves the right to do so without notice. Since we periodically may change our Web site Privacy Policy, your use of this site will be subject to the most current policy version. Therefore, you may want to check the policy from time to time.

Personal Information: Your ERS Account and Privacy

“Personal Information” is information about an individual that is readily identifiable to that specific individual, including, but not limited to, an individual’s name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, Social Security number, birth date, or any combination of information that could be used to identify an individual.

We do not collect any of your personal information via our Web site unless you voluntarily provide it to us. The personal information that you voluntarily provide will be disclosed only to the ERS employees or officials, or those under contract with the ERS, with a ‘need to know’ basis for purposes of fulfilling their job responsibilities; employees with access to your personal information are required to strictly maintain the confidentiality of all member information. No personal information will be disclosed to any unauthorized individual, unless we receive formal authorization from you or are required to comply with federal or state laws, or if required by court order.

Public Records Law

Wisconsin laws exist to ensure that government is open and that the public has a right to access appropriate records and information possessed by governmental entities. At the same time, there are exceptions and limitations to the public’s right to access public records that serve various needs including the privacy of individuals (e.g., the home address, home electronic mail address, home telephone number, or social security number of an employee). Exceptions and limitations are provided by both state and federal laws. Information collected at this site may become public record and may be subject to inspection and copying by the public, unless covered by such an exception or limitation in law. Some of the exemptions and limitations to the public’s right to access public records are listed in Wis. Stat. §§ 19.35(1)(am), 19.36(10), 19.36(11), and 19.36(13).

Any personally identifiable information obtained by the ERS via this Web site is protected from public access from the Internet. It is only available to the public when it is appropriate for release pursuant to applicable state and federal laws.

We maintain strict physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your non-public personal information. The ERS uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure that all information transmitted is safe and secure. The ERS utilizes “VeriSign Secure” technology; therefore, your personal information is encrypted (scrambled) and displayed in a secure environment. In addition, we will not sell your personal information to anyone.
