Retirement Process
To begin the retirement process, follow these steps:
First, telephone a pension specialist to request a pension estimate. Remember, this is only an estimate. A final calculation will be determined at the time of your actual retirement.
After receiving your estimate, schedule a retirement appointment with a pension specialist at least 30 calendar days, but not more than 90 days, before your planned retirement date.
At your retirement appointment, assess your retirement options with your pension specialist.
Your specialist will verify your information and your estimate.
Your effective date of retirement will be the day after your last day on the payroll.
Generally, you will receive your first pension check at the end of the next month following your retirement date.
Contact your department payroll clerk to arrange for your last day on the payroll prior to calling the ERS for a retirement appointment.
At the time you call for retirement appointment, you will need to provide the ERS with a retirement date and an option election. Your retirement packet will be prepared in advance of your appointment.
