Open Enrollment

2018 Open Enrollment period will be October 23, 2017 through November 10, 2017.

***Please do not call the ERS regarding health insurance if you are a MPS, MMSD, United Water, Veolia or MATC retiree. Contact that agency directly. ***

Health Benefits Open Enrollment period started on Monday, October 23, 2017 and ends on Friday November 10, 2017. If you do not wish to change your health and prescription drug benefits plan, you do not need to do anything. However, since there will be a change in the dental plan, those paying COBRA for Dental Blue and MetLife must elect into CarePlus or Delta Dental for 2018. Even if staying on CarePlus, you must confirm continuation of this coverage.

Please make note of the following:

  • There are no changes in benefit design for the City health benefits, UHC Choice and UHC Choice Plus in 2018. The deductibles, co-insurance and out-of-pocket maximum for health benefits with UHC Choice and UHC Choice Plus will not change, nor will the co-insurance for prescriptions with OptumRx and UnitedHealth MedicareRx.

  • There are increases in the premiums in 2018 for both Medicare retirees and retirees under 65 without Medicare.

  • Any open enrollment changes you make will take effect on January 1, 2018. You will continue to be covered under your current health plan through December 31, 2017.

  • All City of Milwaukee Medicare retirees with UnitedHealth MedicareRx prescription benefits will continue to have a 20% co-insurance in 2017 for their prescriptions. Please continue to use the UH MedicareRx card for your prescriptions in 2018.

  • All City of Milwaukee retirees under 65 without Medicare with the OptumRx prescription benefit will continue to have a 20% co-insurance in 2017 for their prescriptions. Please continue to use the “one combined card,” UHC Medical and OptumRx prescription drug card, in 2018.

  • If you are choosing to drop your City of Milwaukee retiree coverage, both Medicare retirees and retirees without Medicare, you must notify the ERS in writing at least 30 days in advance.

  • The ERS does not send out automatic confirmations upon receipt of open enrollment forms. If you would like to receive confirmation of receipt, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for this purpose when submitting your form. You may also request confirmation by calling the Open Enrollment Hotline at (414)286-3689. We also recommend that you keep a copy of your open enrollment form for your records prior to mailing it to the ERS.

  • Open Enrollment Fairs: The City scheduled seven Open Enrollment Fairs that are open to all City employees and retirees. Four dates will still be available at the time of this newsletter’s publication (please see below for more information).
