Summertime Celebrations

Milwaukee is called the "City of Festivals" for a reason. The city is full of great summer activities. Here is a link to many of them - ranging from church festivals to the lakefront festivals.

Keeping Up With the Digital World

The ERS has plans to improve both our public site and the Member Self Service site before the end of the year. Our improvements are in response to changes in the digital world...

How people access our website has changed...

  • More people are using their phones to visit our site. Phones were used by 5% of site visitors in April of 2013, but 21% of site visitors this April. (Tablet use is up from 6% to 9% in this same period.)
  • Less than 5 years ago - in October of 2012 - over 70% of visitors to our website were using Internet Explorer as their web browser. Today, less than 30% use IE.

Our volume is up...

  • The number of people who visit our website has increased 48% in the last four years - from just over 10,000 in April of 2013, to just over 15,000 this past April.

And of course the technology has improved as well.

We think you will appreciate the improved design and increased functionality.

Investment Update

The City of Milwaukee Pension Fund earned a return of 4.3%, net of fees, in the first quarter of 2017.  This return underperformed the Fund’s blended benchmark by 0.1%. GDP growth in the U.S. was sluggish, but still positive, and unemployment remained low. The Fund reported positive returns for all asset classes, with the exception of private equity. Public equity markets were strong across the globe, with the Fund’s public equity allocation returning 6.6%, net of fees. The Fund’s fixed income return was 1.6%, net of fees – double the benchmark return of 0.8%. The Fund’s other alternative asset classes continued to perform well, with absolute return up 1.7%, net of fees, in the first quarter, and real estate up 2.3%, net of fees, in the fourth quarter of 2016, which is the most recent quarterly data available. The market value of the Fund on March 31, 2017 totaled approximately $5.05 billion.
